What Is That?
Maybe it was on a sunny day in the islands off of the coast of North and South America. A group of Native Americans might have been sitting on the sandy beach watching the seagulls as they were fishing and hearing the waves as they broke along the shore.
The sun was hot and the wind was gently blowing
All was good in their world. They had plenty of fish to eat, berries to pick and they knew their neighbors from other islands were not expected to come to trade until the next full moon.
What a life…
As one of the braves was looking out to sea and dreaming of the fish he would cook for dinner, he saw something strange that he had never seen before.
He alerts his companions and they all watch with amazement as a large object (ship) comes closer to their tranquil island. Quickly, they pick up their gear and retreat behind the nearest palm trees.
Why did they run?
They continued to watch in amazement as the large vessel stops near the beach and men row into shore on smaller boats. These men were also very different from the natives by the color of their skin, the clothes they wore, and the language they spoke.
Quietly, the natives moved away from the beach and back to their villages to alert their families and friends.
What do you think they said to their family, the chief and others as they entered the village?
From this moment in time, their lives and the world as the Native Americans and the Europeans knew it would be changed forever.
