- Kindergarten Dictionary for Vocabulary
- Play a word game with the children. Can you answer these questions using the words home, neighborhood, city/town? Write the words on sheets of paper or on the chalk board (Smartboard) for students to choose.
- It is where I sleep at night.(home)
- It is where I spend time with my family.(home)
- It is where I play with my friends.(neighborhood)
- It is where I go to the grocery store.(neighborhood or greater community links to town)
- It is where I get off of the bus.(neighborhood)
- It is where I go to learn. (school)
- Use a circle within a circle method to explain the concept. The smallest inter circle is the child’s house. The next circle around that is their neighborhood. And the final circle around that is the town or city in which the child lives.
- Get a county map and show the same areas to the children by showing them the road names where they live. A document camera is great for this activity.
- As an entire class make a map to the local grocery store or fast food restaurant from the school.
