The Europeans traveled for many months on small ships. They first landed along the eastern coast of North America from the Carolinas to New England. They met many hardships such as…

No food to eat.
No place to live.
This land was a great deal different from their home in England or Spain.
No one wanted to work as much as was needed to make this adventure become a reality.
The water was bad to drink.
Many people died because of the mosquitoes.
And there were unfriendly natives.

THIS WAS NOT FUN… Do you think many of the people ask themselves “ Why did I do this?”
If you were coming to America as an adventurer, sailor,proprietor, servant, or a person looking for a new life, what could you do to help your fellow passengers establish a colony.
Remember, there were no stores, no cars, no electricity, no telephones, andcolonies were few and far between. At the beginning of the 1600”s a person could travel for miles and/or days outside of your colony before you saw another person that was from your own country.
