Suggestions
- Using Pictures—Have a picture of town mayor, governor, and president. Also have pictures of town chief of police. Call these places for these pictures. Talk about that these people run our town, state and nation.
- Talk about the classroom rules and laws. Then progress to school rules and laws. Next talk about town rules and laws for children and parents. This can be overwhelming but just keep it simple.
- Ask Chief of Police to visit or even the town mayor. Tell them before the visit what you want them to talk about.
- Make sure that students understand that even the smallest community should have a part in government by registering to vote and then voting when it is appropriate.
